Its getting towards the end of the semester and there is so much that we have to do. Between final papers, stying for exams, trying to find a summer job, moving back home and trying to figure out what classes to take next semester there is a lot on everyones mind and the stress can get to you. I know I'm not the only one who is swamped right now. This is my current work space.
Computer, headphones, highligher, textbook and papers everywhere. The end of the semester seems to be a struggle for everyone so since I want to procrastinate a summary I have to write, I am going to share some of my tactics on reducing stress and making the end of the semester livable.
1. I listen to music while I write or study. Now, this isnt just any kind of music its relaxing music. I usually will listen to mellow music like The Civil Wars. But, when doing something that requires a lot of focus, I listen to some classical music. Not the lame stuff. The good stuff. Like this!
This is called Air and its by a UK composer type person named Paul Collier. His music is extremely deep and relaxing which is helpful when needing to gain focus on something important.
2. Taking breaks. Taking a break every once in awhile is sooo important. Its what helps me stay sane during this stressful time in school. If you are feeling overwhelmed, take a break and go for a walk, watch a silly youtube video or play an online game that you love. It will refresh your mind and you will be able to come back to your work without feeling to stressed out.
3. SLEEP!! I know that its tempting to pull and all nighter and study or maybe you forgot about a paper that is due and you stay up all night to write it. Plan ahead with papers and study during the day. Sleeping is so essential and is probably one of the most important things to keep yourself sane. If you are running low on sleep, you will not remember what you studied and you will not do as well on final exams.
4. Dont forget, you have friends. I know it is easy to get wrapped up with everything that is going on but taking one night to go hang out with friends or calling a friend when you are taking a break from studying really helps. Friends have this way of helping you release all that stress. Mostly because they make you laugh. Laughter is very important and helps take all the stress away.
5. Stay orgainized. Finals and studying is a chaotic time so things get lost easily. This only causes more problems and more stress. Keep everything in folders and make sure your computer documents are orgainized (in case you have to make a portfolio like me) it really will help you to remain focused and you will not be distracted by the mess you have created.
And finally....
6. Stay motivated. It is so easy to give up and start writing jibberish in papers just to get it done or forget studying all together because your brain cant handle it but its so not worth it. Remember your goal to get a degree and give yourself a reward when you are finished with your work. Whether that reward is a shopping trip, a smoothie, or watching 2 hours of TV. It really helps to have motivation.
Well, that is all for now. I hope these tips help you. (I know they help me tons!)
